Impress is a small, specialist, publishing house founded by Prof. Phil Cleaver in 1979. Impress, originating from the word impression, publish an eclectic mix of books, portraying an intimate understanding of typography and a reputation for quality and professionalism, using various printing methods including digital, lithography and letterpress.

Phil Cleaver is an award-winning graphic designer, author and artist whose personality was formed in the labyrinthine city of London, under the influence of (among other things) Punk, the Far East and some of the design industries most prominent and influential leaders. His time is split between runninget al design consultants and being Professor in the Creative Industries for Middlesex University, London.

Impress aim to make an impression with every book published. The attention to detail and exceptionally high standard of production is immediately evident with every book we produce.

The British Book Design & Production Awards is one of the most prestigious literary events in the world of publishing. The awards recognise and promote the excellence of the British book design and production industry by celebrating the best books of the year. The judges look for exceptional production and design, free of typographical errors, with particular emphasis given to excellent layout and standards of typography. The winners will be announced on 21st November 2019.
